Daniel Bird caught the filmmaking bug early. He began shooting super 8 movies and animating at the age of 14. After university, he spent two years paying his dues in the cutting rooms of the British feature film industry. His love of animation then drew him to Prague for what would become a four-year apprenticeship with the legendary surrealist animator Jan Švankmajer, under whom he sharpened his skills in model-making, animating, and editing while working on a wide range of commercials and films. In 2008, Daniel left Prague for Amsterdam to apply his expertise to Greenpeace International, where he created and directed multiple award-winning films to launch online campaigns about crucial environmental issues. His short film Seed was a sensation on the festival circuit, winning Best Animation at Slamdance in 2010. Today, Daniel directs commercials in live action and in an entire range of animated styles—including traditional line 2D, 3D, and stop motion—often combining multiple approaches in astonishing ways to elevate his spots into works of art.
