Law Chen is a director from Beijing, China currently based in New York City. He was born in the US but moved back to China at the age of 8 when his parents sought job opportunities back home. Law’s experience growing up in China as well as traveling around Asia has exposed him to a variety of different cultures that have shaped him as a filmmaker. He used China’s unique setting as the inspiration for his early film projects, and the blend of Eastern and Western cultures continue to be an integral part of his writing and directorial style. Upon graduating from high school in Beijing, he attended Duke University where he studied Biomedical Engineering and Economics before ultimately deciding to pursue directing in NYC. As the lead commercial director at BBDO for 7 years, Law garnered multiple awards at film and advertising festivals including the Cannes Lions, Clios, One Show, Andy’s, NY Festival, New Director Showcase, and mentions at the Sundance, Cannes, Rome, London, and Tribeca film festivals. Law was also one of the top 10 most awarded commercial directors at the Cannes Lions. Online, his work has received the coveted Vimeo Staff Picks as well as Short of the Week, and has amassed over 10 million views. Most recently he completed the China episode for the docu-series 'Rotten' on Netflix, is developing a scripted series with Justin Lin/YOMYOMF, and is directing a scifi action blockbuster in China. He hopes to continue directing films that tell stories about the diversity of the human experience with a focus on cross cultural projects between the US and China.
