Bratislava-born Evelyn Bencicova’s photographer and art director work is never quite what it first appears to be. Her meticulously controlled compositions are characterized by an aesthetic sterility, tinged with poetic undertones of timeless desire and longing. They are at once minimalist, yet pulsating with energy.
A highly architectonic symmetry, with strong historical references, is acutely disrupted by frictional elements. Her compelling narrative scenarios blur the lines between reality, memory, and imagination, playing with the viewer’s perception, inviting social commentary. Informed by her background in fine art and new media studies at the University for Applied Arts in Vienna, Evelyn’s practice combines her interest in contemporary culture with academic research to create a unique aesthetic space in which the conceptual meets the visual.
Working for fashion and luxury brands such as Gucci and Cartier, as well as cultural and art institutions like Frieze, Kunsthalle Basel, The Royal Opera House, Institute of Molecular Biotechnology and Berghain, her projects, have been featured in the likes of Vogue, ZEIT Magazine, Dazed & Confused, GUP, HANT and Opera Magazine.
Evelyn has participated in solo and group exhibitions across the world and has received many awards including the prestigious Hasselblad Masters and Broncolor GenNext awards. Evelyn was selected as one of 30 under 30 Female photographers by Artpil!
Currently, Evelyn calls the world her home and Berlin her base.
