David Wilson

Biography

David Wilson builds character-driven worlds with musicality, playfulness, and a sharp sense of execution – cinematic yet always with a streak of subversion under the polish.

David studied Illustration at the University of Brighton, where a conceptual course – built around quick responses to limited briefs – pushed him toward music videos and commercials. He taught himself filmmaking during that time. His background in animation still shapes how he works: thinking graphically, storyboarding methodically, building animatics before a frame is shot.

His career spans large-scale campaigns, genre-defining music videos, and short films, with brand work for Nike, Apple, Facebook, Etsy, Ikea, O2, Cadbury, Spotify, and LEGO. He’s directed videos for Arctic Monkeys, Lady Gaga, David Guetta, Christine and the Queens, Tove Lo, Glass Animals, and Metronomy, and keeps ongoing partnerships with Arcade Fire and Tame Impala. His work has been recognized at Cannes Lions, D&AD, Kinsale Sharks, the Grammys, Berlin Music Video Awards, Creative Circle, MTV VMAs, EUROBEST, British Arrows, LIA, UKMVAs, and Saatchi & Saatchi’s New Directors Showcase.

Based in London, David splits his time between directing and curating live theatre.
